Laboratories and Controlled Environments
JA Floors has delivered flooring in laboratory and infection-control environments, where the floor is part of how the room is kept clean. The work usually combines substrate preparation to tight tolerances with a welded or seamless floor finish, coved junctions and, where specified, hygienic wall sheeting. Recent work for BIO Construct Services includes PC2 laboratory rooms at Paragon Care, finished in coved vinyl and static dissipative flooring, and controlled areas at PolyNovo, with static dissipative flooring, coved vinyl and a self-levelling epoxy floor in a climate-controlled warehouse.
Both can work in a laboratory. Welded sheet vinyl with coved skirting gives a continuous, cleanable surface and is often specified for lab and clinical rooms. Seamless resin systems suit areas that need to be jointless across larger floors or carry heavier wear. The choice depends on the cleaning agents and chemicals used in the space, traffic and loads, how the floor meets walls, benches and services, the condition of the substrate, program and curing time, and the specification. Suitability for a particular chemical or cleaning regime is confirmed against the manufacturer’s data and the project specification.
Controlled-environment work runs to a commissioning program. Flooring has to be sequenced with services and other trades, finished floors protected until handover, and access managed in buildings that may already be partly operating.
